Product Review

Paper keeps jamming up

by   ladywriter ,   Jun 27, 2005

Pros:  Uses plain paper, have two voice mailboxes and help function prints out commands.

Cons:  Paper jams easily, no output tray for original docs, overbearing answering machine.

The Bottom Line:  If you can find a more reliable machine that doesn't suck in two pages at once, go for that one. Unless you like all the features that this one have.

Overall Rating: 3/5 stars

Author's Review

I've had the Panasonic for about 2 years now. I actually lost the manual in the first year so I had to intuitively figure out what's where. It also has a neat help feature which will print out all the commands needed. So, it's quite user-friendly.

Even though it had tons of features, we only had used it for our faxing, voice mail and the occasional speaker. Based on reading many reviews, we've decided to have a seperate printer and scanner. Due to this, our ink has lasted until now.

Faxing -

I have two big issues with the faxing. First, it doesn't have a fax output tray to catch the original documents. It will slide through the "Document Exit" and scatter on to the floor as I had it on a ledge. But, even if I placed it on a table, the papers would be strewn about.

Second issue is the paper jam. It says that it can accept 10 papers at a time. I don't think it can accept more than 3. It will sometimes take two pages at one time too which of course jams up the machine.

What I like about the faxing is that there's the Quickscan feature. What it does is to quickly scan the pages so that I can be there to accept the pages when the exit out of the machine.

And I'm able to dial the number first before putting the pages in the machine which is great. It's one feature that I wanted as most of the time, the fax number of the other party is on the document we want to fax.

I also send faxes overseas and it's sometimes an issue because the other side might need more time to receive the data. The "overseas mode" will slow down the transmission speed.

No problems in receiving faxes. It always comes through right and clear. The other good thing about this machine is that it uses normal plain paper instead of the thermal paper. It's just more convenient.

Voice Mail -
I chose to use the Voicemail feature more for convenience. It will not be able to receive faxes if you have another machine as your answering machine.

The biggest issue I have is that when I pick up the phone from another phone late, the answering machine will go on and doesn't switch off even when I've already picked up the phone so the message will continue going and will have a loud annoying beep before recording your conversation.

However, it has two seperate mailboxes which is neat. The caller can choose either to leave a general message or a private message to the mailboxes. I can also put in a password for each mailbox. I think this is good for small home offices as it helps to add to the professional image. No one will know that the Marketing and Finance Dept is one person, right?

Hope this helps in you choosing your fax machine.
