We purchased this microwave from Best Buy on June 26 of 2007. Everything was fine for the two months, and then on September 21st, the microwave stopped heating food. I contacted Panasonic and got the name of two local repair centers and made arrangements to have it repaired. I was told by the repair center that it would be approximately a week for them to look at it and order the part then it would depend on how fast Panasonic could get the part to them.
After two weeks of no call I talked to the repair center and was told they have never looked at it so did not received the part, so I contacted Panasonic myself to find out the problem. I was extremely frustrated I called the 800 number thirteen times. Ten times, I was hung up on when I was told I was being transferred to the correct department. One time I listened to the phone ring for over twelve minutes then hung up and called back again. This time I insisted on taking to someone in charge, I was given a direct number to Panasonic customer service, which I thought I had been talking to. After confirming the number, several times I called it to find out it was disconnected. Upon calling the thirteenth time, now very angry, I talked with a customer service manager who listened to the entire tale again, then gave me a case number and told me I would hear from a field representative within thirty-six hours. I never heard from anyone from Panasonic then on October 18th I was finally contacted by the service center that the microwave was finally repaired, almost one month later. It had a burnt inverter board that shorted out the magnetron.
When I picked it up I noticed they had three of the same microwave on the shelf all with the same problem, so I asked if they had heard anything from a Panasonic field representative and I was told no. As if this was not bad enough I got the unit home plugged it in and my wife began to cook a bag of frozen vegetables only to have the microwave start to make cracking noises, the lights in the kitchen to dim, and a burning odor coming from the microwave. I un-plugged it and called the service center immediately, they set up a service call for the very next day. The service technician was the same one who had worked on the microwave and when he opened the outer cover the control panel had burnt. He said one of the other units at the shop had done the same thing. I was told he would order the part on a rush and take care of it within the week. Today is November 5th and I still do not have a microwave, so I called Panasonic again this time I got through to a customer service on the first try only a two minute wait. I gave the person on the other side of the phone the case number; he looked it up and confirmed whom he was taking to, then asked what he could do for me. I explained the situation and asked if there is any way to expedite the repair by rushing the part. I was told there was nothing he could do, so then I asked about the field representative that was going to call me and never did, at this point he got short with me and stated if I was trying to get a new microwave it wasnt going to happen. Instead of going ballistic, I simply stated that I would have to contact the better business burrow and my state attorney general and I hung up. There is obviously a problem with these microwaves for there to be three at the repair shop at one time, then to get treated by Panasonic is such a rude manor, I would recommend that you do not buy any Panasonic appliance.
