Product Review

A great way to finally get organized

by   love2sail ,   Jun 20, 2001

Pros:  Sleek appearance, a wide variety of applications, simple to use, rechargeable

Cons:  Insufficient amount of memory

The Bottom Line:  The Palm V performs as well as it looks. There are a variety of pre-loaded applications, it is simple to use, it is durable and will make you more organized.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

Before I obtained my Palm V, I was one of those people that had a calendar for work, another personal calendar, two name and address books, two sets of memos and lose papers hanging every which way out of all of these things. The Palm V totally changed that and made me far more organized.

Appearance – Probably one of the best looking.

The Palm V is very lightweight and attractive in its thin, anodized aluminum case. The cover that comes with this model is somewhat inadequate when it comes to protecting the PDA so I bought a nice black leather case which offers significantly more protection.

Great for business, especially if you travel.

The Palm V offers the usual applications that most other PDA’s have. It has a daily/weekly/monthly calendar that is easy to toggle around. There is a simple calculator, To-do lists, customizable memos, and a phone number/address book. There is a “search” tool that allows you to search for information based upon keywords. It is surprisingly quick. The V also has an application that will allow you to track various business expenses. I really like the optional audible alarms in the date book. I set them to remind me of calls I have to make, meetings to attend and even to wake me up in the morning.

But it is not all about serious business.

The Palm V comes with a number of games installed. I have also down loaded a few that were free of charge on the internet. I especially like the Chess game I have. It is also great for logging daily information. I like to store my workout routines on my Palm to chart my progress. There are also some impressive databases that can be stored on a Palm V. A quick check of the internet will provide DB’s of everything from restaurant reviews to street maps. I collect wine so I like the wine score database I have stored on my Palm. This model only has 2MB of memory (I see that is insufficient now that I own one), so one is limited as to how many DB’s one can store on their unit.

A few miscellaneous notes

I am very impressed with the rechargeable power supply that is built in. The Palm V recharges in no time and I only have to recharge it every 3 weeks or so. That is great when you are traveling and do not want to have to take along the charger. The Hot-Sync feature allows you to store whatever you keep on your PDA on your P.C. or laptop. One may use this to upload e-mail from their P.C. to their Palm. The Palm V seems fairly durable. When I first opened the box, in his excitement, my Dad tried to grab it to look at it but succeeded in knocking it through the air and crashing onto a brick floor. Not even a scratch resulted!
