Clint Eastwood takes the "spaghetti western" genre and flips it around to make one in the US.

"Pale Rider" is the account of the small, honest, hardscrabble gold panners trying to keep their claim against a rapacious company. Enter into this comes the man with no name on horseback. He looks to be a preacher, but one who practices more than preaching. Please stop me if you have heard this one before...

Mr. Eastwood does a wonderful job in directing and the cinematography is damn good for a western in winter. While the biblical references to death riding in on a pale horse are a bit forced, the overall concept is a good one and serviceable. If you saw "High Plains Drifter" and were a bit disappointed, then see "Pale Rider".

Other good films by Mr. Eastwood in this genre: "Unforgiven" (a MUST SEE), "The Outlaw Josey Wales" and "High Plains Drifter".
