Author's Review
For as long as I can remember I have been involved in pageants. I began competing when I was a small child, took a break for awhile and then started competing again when I was in my early teens.
When you compete in pageants, judge pageants, or direct pageants, you need all of the resources available to you, so that you know the in's and out's of what is going on in the ever changing world of pageantry.
I discovered Pageantry Magazine in 1995, and since then, I can't get enough. From shoes to hair accessories this magazine has you covered. There are advertisements from many companies and stores that offer a full selection of pageant wear to specialty stores for competitors of all ages from babies to Mrs. pageants. This is an exceptional resource for people who compete, because it is often hard to find these things if you are new to the World of Pageants.
In each issue there are regional guides, directing you to the stores to service your needs in formalwear, accessories, coaching, fitness, etc.
You will find fitness tips from Mike Fifrick a lot, and he is hands down the best, not only do you get Mike, but you also get Sharon Turrentine, another pageant fitness guru. These are top notch fitness experts who have trained many national as well as Universal title holders.
When you are a competitor, you want to know your competition, and often times, you meet people that will be life long friends, sometimes just people that you want to keep up with. In each issue you will find a section that tells you the latest news, from who holds what titles, to what functions they were featured at, to what shows they are on, and where the pageant will be aired. This is another great resource to keep up with the pageant industry, those friends, and it even helps you know that a person that you are competing against has held certain titles.
There are applications and/or contact numbers for almost every type of pageant imaginable, from babies to Mrs Pageants, you will find major pageants such as the Miss America, Miss USA, Miss Teen USA pageant systems to well known pageant systems such as Moonbeam, Sunburst, America's Cover Miss, and Cinderella Pageants. There are also contact numbers to specialty pageants, such as photo only, online pageants, essay pageants, Petite pageants, plus size pageants, ethnic originated pageants, and major festival pageants. Competitors often want to find a pageant that offers nice prizes, and especially know that they are reputable. Many times when competing your name is added to a mailing list and you will receive applications to a vast array of pageants, some you may have never heard of, and doubt their reliability. But, when you are a Pageantry reader, you can rest assured that the pageants you see listed are indeed valid, well ran organizations.
If you are a director of pageants, Pageantry will provide you with contact numbers of tiara, banner, and trophy dealers, in addition to DJ's who is hot in emceeing, and who to call for lighting, stage and choreography.
Pageantry magazine is still delivered to my mailbox each quarter, as it is published four times a year. Each issue is generally about 200 pages, and although I no longer compete, I still enjoy the publication greatly.
The only thing that I am not as interested in as I was when I first began subscribing is the Spring Prom issue, but since most competitors are teenagers, this is a great resource to know what the hot styles of the year are, and where you can find them.
Every fall/winter edition is one that I cannot wait to receive since it features complete coverage of the Miss America pageant, this year I will be especially excited, because I was unable to watch the pageant. But, I know that I can count on Pageantry to give me all that I need to know about Miss Hawaii, now Miss America!
This magazine is an absolute must if you love pageants! If you need subscription information, feel free to contact me at foreveraGAgirl@aol.com.
Thanks for reading my review, hope you enjoyed it!
