Product Review

Great integrated unit!

by   tigerman89 ,   Apr 4, 2005

Pros:  Bluetooth, 128MB Memory, SD Card Slot, Backlit Keyboard, VGA Camera

Cons:  Price, no 802.11, no compact flash slot

The Bottom Line:  Buy a 512MB or 1GB SD Card and a Bluetooth headset and you will absolutely love this device!

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

I tried the AudioVox PPC6601 when it was release late 2004 and loved the functionality but decided to wait on the PPC6600 unit because I also wanted the camera features.

This unit does it all except 802.11. It runs Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition software and comes with all of the traditional Pocket PC applets plus Sprint's business connection software, some audio and jpeg management tools. It also has an integrated backup utility (Xbackup) which may be used to backup your unit to an SD card (sold separately). The holster is also very nice--horizontal with belt clip and magnetic latch. The battery lasts all day with mild phone and camera usage. I have two charging cradles (1 for work and 1 for home) and a car charger, so I haven't had any issues with the battery dying. It does have a backup battery just in case, however.

I use the PCS Personal Connection agent on my PC, and it pushes my live email and calendaring to my 6600 very nicely. It also allows me access to my desktop files via the web browser. Sprint's PCS Vision service only costs $15/month and provides me with unlimited Internet connectivity.

I use the Bluetooth capability for synchronizing with my computer, navigating with map software and a bluetooth GPS, and with a Motorola bluetooth headset.

My two chief complaints are: (1) low volume when playing movies/MP3s; (2) Sometimes the bluetooth headset will not automatically activate.

The pros definately out weigh the cons with this device. I purchased a 1GB SD Card and use it for backups, MP3s and any large software packages and still have a ton of room left on the card and in the unit's memory. If the price doesn't bother you and you are looking for one device, then this is a great choice!
