Best thing to start your adventure with.

by   zero_rogue ,   May 14, 2009

Pros:  Massive replayability, great customization.

Cons:  slow to level up compaired to other guild wars games.

The Bottom Line:  Guild Wars is massively Replayable, Full of things to do. And with Guild Wars: Platinum Edition, you essentially get two games for the price of one!

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

I have been playing of guild wars for about 4 years now, ever since it was in beta, and I am still playing. Guild Wars brings the best of Massively Multiplayer On-line RPG's to those who do not want to spend days on end playing.

Guild Wars is currently 4 games combined into one giant world. Guild wars:Prophecies, Guild wars:Factions, Guild wars:Nightfall, and Guild wars:Eye of the North. This is actually both Guild wars:Prophecies and Guild wars:Eye of the North together in one packaged deal. As most guild wars accounts start at $29.99 - $49.99 this is an excellent deal for first time players.

Guild Wars:Prophecies was the first game in the Guild Wars series, with this you can choose one of six of the ten professions in the game. Each profession has its own set of armor, weapons, skills, and attributes. However what really sets the professions apart is the specialty called the Primary attribute. These attributes are exclusive to the profession and boost the effectiveness of the player.

The six professions you can take with this are;

Warriors
Who specialize in melee combat with axes, swords, and hammers. They also have several skills that boost attacks, health, armor, and running speed. Warriors are like tanks that charge into battle able to brush damage off and keep swinging.
Their primary attribute allows them to ignore a percentage of armor with their attacks.

Rangers
Use bows to Interrupt, slow down, poison, and various other nasty conditions. Rangers can set traps up that if set off cause some damage as well as place annoying conditions on enemies. Finally the ranger also can tame and raise pets that will aid him in battle. There are many pets to choose from as well as several skills to boost the power of your pet.
Their primary attribute allows them to reduce the cost of non-spell skills.

Monks
Are the primary healer class, There are three ways the monks go about healing. First is the straight forward healing skills that will heal for a good amount as well as regenerate health, Protection skills that will prevent damage and provide additional protection when the battle really gets heated. Finally smiting skills do not heal as much as they punish the attacker, either returning damage dealt or knocking down the target
Their Primary attribute give a healing power to all their monk spells, allowing spells that would not normally heal, a small heal.

Necromancers
Use the power of the dead and dieing to boost their spells. They can cause massive health loss on a single target, punish them for attacking, or create "wells" that use a corpse to help allies and hurt enemies. Finally Necromancers can spawn undead minions that will assist the necromancer in combat.
Their Primary attribute give the player energy when an enemy dies.
Mesmers
are designed to annoy the heck out of others. They have the ability interrupt spell casters, use skills to limit the enemy's abilities, or cause general confusion amongst the enemy's ranks.
Their Primary attribute reduces the time it takes to cast spells

Elementalist
s
The Primary damage dealer, each elementalist can use the elements of earth air fire and water to cause massive damage. Each element has its own affinity, Most Fire spells case burning for extra damage. Most air spells can ignore a percent of armor. Several earth spells can boost defensive powers as well as knockdown. Many water spells cause the enemy to slow down.
Their Primary attribute gives extra max energy.

Guild Wars:Prophecies is the best for a player just getting into guild wars, however those who want to Go straight to Player vs Player may want to pick annother Guild Wars game as this one is slow to level your characters. Although a bit easy its still considered the center of the guild wars world.

Guild wars:Eye of the North Is the newest expansion of Guild Wars, Unlike the previous other 3 expansions, its not a new campaign, It is instead an addon to any current Campaign. It is made for players who have reached level 20, It add addional content, that shall keep even experience players busy for a long time to come.

One of the best things in Eye of the north is the "Hall of Monuments" witch records your acheivements of your character or Account and once Guild Wars 2 comes out, Gives you extra items not advailaible to those who initially start out in Guild Wars 2.

Guild wars was designed for those players who dont have the best internet out there, or the fastest computer. Guild wars can be ran on a 56k connection, and on a computer several years old.

The best part of guild wars is its STILL being updated with new content after 4 years and months since the eye of the north was released. Theres always something you havent done yet.  You can eassily spend thousand of hours in the game.
