Author's Review
I got a OTSBH for a shower gift... I didn't know if I would be an "attachment" parent, or not... I wasn't sure HOW I would feel about parenting style... I just knew I was leaning towards a "hands on" approach! I had a natural birth (on purpose :) ) and would breastfeed.
I also decided when my son was born that I would be a Stay At Home Mom (SAHM). It was soon after my son was born, that we found out how VALUABLE this sling was!!
This sling is of simple construction. But there is value in the padded shoulder design, and the padding around the "rim" of the sling... and also the great rings they have at the each end of the sling...(easy on and off, and to keep from coming undone completely)
I REALLY can't say enough about using a sling... At first we were using it "wrong"... uncomfortable for us, not him... so we broke the video out... I have since used every position since then (we REALLY liked when be could do the "pouch facing out"/kangaroo). My son is not particularly fussy... but then, he has spent a lot of time in his sling!!
THE BEST USE (well,ONE of the best) is that you take it along in the cart, when going to a grocery or discount store to shop, and at that point, where they are not really hungry, sick of sitting in the cart or infant carseat, and just want to be held... you can put them in this, and continue with your shopping, while you watch (in sadness) as parents try to comfort their babies "from a distance" so to speak, rushing around the store, as their babies wail, sitting in their car seats, or cart seat!! It is kind of sad, how hands OFF parents have become... too many people telling them they can hold them too much, or something? It is really sad. This sling is the step in the right direction!! My son is 13 1/2 months old... I use the front facing me position, the hip, and the back positions now. I can not imaging not having this!!! He is SUCH a content baby!! And he LOVES his sling!! I was vacuuming the other day with him in the back position... and I was thinking, how nice is this! He hates the vacuum (he thinks it is going to eat me, I think!) and this way he is happy as a clam, and off we go!! I think this is going to be an INVALUABLE item once we have #2!! Forget a double stroller!! This is the way to go!!
You can also nurse very easily, and discretely with this sling. It is GREAT for stores that you don't want to bother with a stroller(for one, anyway)
And I was able to get so much done! I was always making dinner with my son all comfy in his sling!
I have NEVER seen a baby fussy in one of these!! Never! There are a lot of "imitations". Make sure that they have IDENTICAL features, if you are to buy one!! And make sure it is not one that limits the positions (like that one on the market with the "seat belt" in it... only usefull for a VERY limited time!!)
Oh yeah, and don't forget the safeness of it for the baby! Those carrier (front) that carry them upright, with all their own weight on and spreading their hips! Those too are limited use, expensive (can be) and just not as natural and comfortable for them!!
My friend (not maternal, mind you-bless her heart) pointed out, who should we fashion our baby carriers after... women of Sweden, or women of Africa and China, who carry their babies all day, while they work/etc.!! Good point!!
There is not a time when I go out and people don't comment on how great it is, how comfortable my son looks, and how happy I seem !! I am, cuz we are living in harmony!! (Great for Daddys too!! My husband LOVES to hold his son in this!!)
