Simple, Works Well, Can Do a Lot, and It's Inexpensive?

by   Pirich , top reviewer in Electronics at Epinions.com ,  Jul 20, 2007
Pros: Well built, bright images, very capable package.
Cons: Large, difficult to pack in a small car.
The Bottom Line: The XT10 is an outstanding value. It may not be as good a choice for a beginner as the XT8, though.
Review: The Orion XT10 Dobsonian Telescope is part of a series of telescopes showing what standing the test of time is all about. Except for minor modifications, these telescopes have remained unchanged since they were introduced, and have been standing up to ...

Great choice, even for a beginner.

by   samfsuox ,  Nov 18, 2004
Pros: Relatively inexpensive, great images, big aperture, well constructed.
Cons: Fairly large and cumbersome, but that is the nature of a large aperture dobsonian.
The Bottom Line: An excellent choice even for newcomers to the hobby. I highly recommend it.
Review: I am new to amateur astronomy and decided on this scope due to it's generous aperture and relatively inexpensive cost. Ordering: I ordered my XT10 online and found that it was a very smooth process. I would like to add that the customer service at ...

Orion SkyQuest XT10: A Great Start

by   leightwing ,  Aug 8, 2005
Pros: Max bang for the buck at entry-level price point
Cons: Weight and size, but you knew that, right? Forget photography
The Bottom Line: No reservations - buy it.
Review: Having never owned a telescope, and having little knowledge about who to consult as I decided to take the plunge, I purchased the Orion XT10 (online) after doing most all of my research online. Now don’t get me wrong; I’ve been admiring the sky ...

Look Up Into The Heavens

by   jnoschese ,  Apr 22, 2003
Pros: sharp views, accepts 2 inch eyepieces, good finderscope, simple setup, cheap price
Cons: HUGE-- thats about it..
The Bottom Line: Excellent views for a lifetime at a real affordable price. Now you just need some eyepieces!
Review: Dobsonian's...everyone's talking about them in the astronomy world, and it's no wonder. Known for its simple use of point and shoot including its tremendous size in apeture for cheap prices. These types of scopes are where you get an excellent quality...

Great quality except for the secondary mirror holder

by   gstitanic ,  Jun 30, 2007
Pros: Good value, great optics, Ease of use, Object locator very accurate and noise free
Cons: Secondary mirror glued on a post , no holder
The Bottom Line: I will recommend this scope. Its like having a "manual go to scope" without the noise and high power requirements.Plus big aperature for big views at a unbig price.
Review: I,ve had the scope since December 2006. My only beef is (like most Dob mounts)the Azimuth movement being too jerky with small minute movements, especially nearing 90 degree zenith.Seems better with a spray of silicon lube before each session. At a later ...
