Oregon Trail is yet another classic, that is not only educational, exciting, and even funny at times, but is also fun for the whole family and people of all ages.
My first encounter with this game when it originally was released many years ago, came about in my grade school. Oregon Trail was and is still used as an educational tool in the school systems, and makes learning about our history fun and entertaining.
The setting of the Oregon Trail game is on a trip one must make along the Oregon Trail from one spot to the next. The whole key to the game is staying alive, healthy, keeping everyone with you alive, and keeping your wagon in good shape for the trip.
Along the way, there are a lot of surprises that pop up from attacks, Indian encounters, wheels on your wagon breaking, starvation, and diseases that attack your or those with you. There are a lot of obstacles that get in the way - but this is how it was in the days when people made trips along this historical trail. This game keeps it as real and as close to documented history as it possibly can.
You are even required to hunt for your own food, buy supplies, and keep plenty on stock. I know from my own experience in playing - that if you refuse to eat or feed those with you or if you refuse to keep them warm, worse will happen.
I have a sad secret - In all my years of playing this wonderful game, I have never made it to the end, not yet anyway's. Actually truth is, I have two very sad secrets - Everyone I have with me always dies along the way, including myself.
I am very glad it is still around and as popular today as it was when I was growing up, and I hope it remains for generations to come. I definately recommend this to everyone of every generation - most especially to parents of young kids, you won't be disappointed.
