My HD Bigscreen
Date of Review: Jan 15, 2008
The Bottom Line: Doesn't do 1080P but for 1/3 of the price it looks excellent!
I was deciding whether to purchase a projector or bigscreen of some sort (LCD/Plasma/Projection) and decided to do the projector route.
Thus far I am extremely happy with my purchase, given this is my first projector.
I have the image at 4' x 7' and the image is pretty good. I have it ceiling mounted fed on component input. For TV I use a Panasonic HD tuner box and let me tell you, the difference between standard and HD is VERY noticable.
It is relatively bright, if it's dim/mild brightness the image comes through visible still. In a dark room it is plenty bright.
My biggest complaint thus far is the focus/zoom. It's got a relatively narrow beam on it, meaning for my 4'x7' image I am probably 10'-12' back. Keep that in mind if you consider putting it in a smaller room, it is definitely something you want mounted behind the viewer.
Using/setting it up is very easy. The menus are straight forward and the remote easy to use (lighted too).
Only one mounting hole is provided though, which only affects your peace of mind really. The 1/4" bolt used is more than enough to hold it up, it just would be nice to have two to hold orientation more easily.
The white color is nice for ceiling mount applications.
I still cannot reason why they had to put the power plug (detachable) on the side vs the back. It would be much cleaner if it came out the back.
I had one close call when I moved and remounted it. It was on and I bumped it and the light went off. The unit powered up w/out any image output. I gave it a little while and tried again and it fired right up. I'm not sure if I ran it over temp or jostled something, but it endured.
Overall as my first projector I'm happy with the price, image size, image quality, ease of use and connectivity of it. Makes a great economy bigscreen.
