Author's Review
Op-Center's Director, Paul Hood, has called it quits! His marriage is going down the rat hole, he has spent no time with his kids, he's stressed out and makes the decision to resign from his powerful position. Tom Clancy's novel, "State of Siege", brings adventure never known to a resignation before.
After his resignation, Hood's first "relaxation" trip is a visit to New York. His daughter, Harleigh, is invited to perform a recital at the United Nations. Hood and his family plan on attending however......
Terrorists take over the UN, take Hood's daughter hostage, and demand a monster ransom. So much for the short-lived retirement. The gala affair turns bloody and the Op-Center goes into action, saving the day. How much can one man endure?
Former UN soldiers are the culprits, driven by greed and past histories. These characters are captivating, their diverse backgrounds interesting. Simply, they are bad people. Through some bad luck and planning, their plans fail. Clancy does have one unique twist. Not knowing Op-Center has a plant in the hostage room, the UN sends in a disguised enforcement, dressed like a terrorist. The Op-Center directive, not knowing any better, blasts him away. Bad luck again.
Hood and his crew save the day, the terrorists are gone, the usual Op-Center suspense and electronics, and an interesting ending to the novel, makes all wonder, what Paul Hood's future holds. An entertaining read, but be sure the read the other Op-Center novels first for needed background.
