Too much, in too little
Date of Review: Jul 15, 2000
When i first saw this game at my best buys ( when it was in its pc version), i was interested, but never ended up buying it. When it finally came to dreamcast, i thought to myself that it would be a good time to try it out. Well, even though the game is ok, and a fun to play in parts, it falls short in some critical parts, and kills what could have been a good game.
When I first put the game in, and the opening movie started, it looked like I would be in good hands. Then, when you start the game, and you first meet Kay'l, the plot seems to be something newer, and that the game could be a well done game. After that, it lost most of its appeal.
Vis 5/10
When I first stepped into the game world, I couldnt believe the amount of fog covered that this world. I thought that in a dreamcast game, fog would be extinct, or at least way back in the distance. Not so in this game. The main character, Kay'l,looks pretty good. The bad thing is most other people he meets look pretty bad, and I quickly got used to chatting with some ugly mugs.
Control 7/10
Control is pretty easy when walking around and fighting hand to hand combat. But when you get to the shooting mode ( god knows what eidos was thinking when they tossed that in ), the control will go down hill. Why in the heck can Kay'l not roll, or do something to dodge shots other then move side to side and hope they miss you?
Sound 8/10
The fact that I didnt have to read line after line of text really helped the game. And the background music wasnt all that bad. Gunshots sounded kinda dumb though.
Gameplay 7/10
The game is fun to play ( when you are not in shooting mode ) and I liked the hand to hand fight kept me practicing for at least half an hour.
When you are walking around trying to solve the actual game, the game can really be fun. But shooting mode really destroys any fun you might have been having.
