Author's Review
As a working journalist, I bought this recorder when conducting interviews with politicians. I wanted to make sure none of them could claim I fabricated a quote. Eventually, my audio recordings evolved into a weekly podcast at my newspaper.
This recorder was incredibly reliable and durable. I can't tell you how many times I dropped this thing, fully expecting it to shatter. Yet, it held up wonderfully. I used it so much the silver paint wore off in the corner. The portability of this little guy is awesome. It's incredibly tiny, and the buttons are positioned in such a way as to not accidentally turn it on or off if you are taking it in or out of a bag or pocket.
I got rid of this recorder when I bought an upgrade (the Olympus DS 40). I sold this recorder to a coworker who was just learning audio, and as far as I know, she's really happy with it. The battery life is incredibly long. If you do interviews every day, you might have to change batteries once every week or so.
The sound is clear, even with group interviews. Just make sure if you are interviewing someone with background noise and/or wind, you shield the wind or move to a quieter spot. This is an issue with any recorder, however, and thus I do not count this as a negative.
If you want better sound, I suggest an external microphone. Just make sure it has the proper connections.
