Olympus WS-311M Digital Voice Recorder

I've just picked up this little recorder for about $100 at Circuit City. My immediate impression, as I opened the box, was that it's very thin and very light while simultaneously very solid; a unique combination of physical attributes. Performance is excellent! I gave it a test run in several different recording modes and several different microphone settings. The sound quality is great. I turned off all the filters and took it outside to record some ambient sound. It's very impressive how clear the pick-up is even of sounds several hundred feet away. There is a little bit of hiss that makes it's way onto the recording but it's consistent enough to where you can record a sample and subtract it from the remainder of the selection with most noise canceling software. All in all, I'm very happy with this purchase.
