Block the Sun With Your Frog Skins!
Date of Review: Jan 5, 2003
The Bottom Line: Oakley Frogskins are comfortable, fashionable, effective - a really brilliant pair of sunglasses.
Although it is a quite strange name for sunglasses, Oakley Frogskins sunglasses are my favorite brand of sunglasses that I own for a number of reasons. In fact, I liked them so much that I actually own 2 pairs. First off, their light, feather-like weight provide no irritation for the user. When you ware them you almost feel as though there is nothing on you.
Style
Their sleek look is really an advantage as well. I like the way they almost form fit to your face so as not too be too gaudy but at the same time you are certainly making a fashion statement when wearing these as well.
Whenever I go jogging, I like wearing my Oakley's. They are almost aerodynamic on the wearer, providing facial protection for your eyes if you are running on a very bright, sunny day or on a day when there is a lot of wind that may be kicking up dirt and sand at the running track. On the other hand, they are so light weight almost featherlike that I barely feel them on my face.
The form-fitting feel of these sunglasses is really nice. There is no outside glare that can affect your eyes. Some glasses do not cover your eyes entirely, resulting in some glare seeping through on the side when you are looking towards the sun at some angles. Not with the Oakley Frogskins.
The epitome of style and fashion in the sunglasses industry, the name Oakley evokes a symbol of high prestige sort of like Godiva in the world of chocolate and Mercedes in the automobile industry. As with any high end item, there is a measure of higher price built into the Oakley product. For instance I paid seventy dollars for one of my pairs, with the rootbeer colored lenses two years ago ( the other pair with the black lenses was bought about five years ago and I don't remember the price of that one ). The retail price indicated here at epinions is seventy-five. In my opinion, the premium is warranted if you are looking for the higher end in protective eyewear.
Proper Cleaning Is Important
For the cleanest lenses possible, my Oakley Frogskins came with a special bag made of a felt-like material specific designed to clean the lenses, which are made of plutonite. I have no idea with plutonite is but the material the bag is made of cleans the lenses well and does not result in the lenses being scratched so it is strongly advised by Oakley to use it whenever you are cleaning your lenses. I regularly clean the lenses to ensure proper protection.
In summary, Oakley Frogskins are a premium product in the sunglasses industry. If you are willing to pay a little more, you are in for a superior product.
