Author's Review
Like a lot of girls (and some boys) I've gone through sooooooo many different nail polishes. I remember when I was younger, my mother had acrylic nails and when I'd go with her to the salon, she always stood with me in front of a huge display of Opi brand colors. There were a lot of colors. (To my dismay, she never went with hot pink or day glow orange).
Not long ago, I found myself in a professional cosmetics store and found a bin filled with Opi Nail Lacquer, and it brought back instant memories of being at the salon with my late mother.
Naturally, I grabbed a bunch of them.
Color Choices
So many. And they're still making more. Many of their colors have really cutesy names like a deep blue called "Yoga-to get this blue". I always want to be in the big conference room when people come with names for colors, but never so much as with this company. Black, White, and every single shade in between can be found through Opi. There are even sheer colors, shimmers, and solids.
The Bottle
The bottle is always the same shape, slightly tapered out from a decently wide bottom (so as to not tip over too easily when painting your nails) and a stubby easy-to-grip cap-brush in either black or silver, depending on the line.
Use
I love this stuff. After the first time I ever used it as an adult, I immediately could see why so many nail salons dealt exclusively with Opi. Its texture isn't too thin or too thick. When applying with the recommended three-stroke method (One stroke down each side of the nail, carefully avoiding the cuticle and sides of the skin, and then one luscious stroke down the middle to complete the color without visible brush strokes). One coat can easily be enough, but two coats will give you the true color you see through the bottle.
After use
Depending on how rough you are on your hands on a day to day basis, this brand seems to hold up better to most of its competition. I've experienced a little chipping, but nothing like peeling or even the phenomenon of having all of the pigment slide right off my nail in the shower.
Because of its not-too-thick texture, touch ups are pretty easy. You can also use a top coat meant to help prevent chipping.
I have dozens and dozens of bottles of nail polish in my possession, but Opi rates in my top three of every brand that exists.
