Author's Review
I needed an all-in-one for my second home, and spent a few hours perusing the Net to make a choice. I was only limited by overall dimensions, as I had a particular shelf for the unit. I chose the 6210 for its specs and its relatively compact size. I do a lot of text printing, and needed speed first.
The included software took an age to install (but at least that's a one-time experience), and had a lot of annoying prompts, but as long as I followed the instructions (which I did, the second time) worked fine. (DO NOT CONNECT THE PRINTER TO YOUR PC BEFORE YOU ARE PROMPTED!) Then I got to work. The 6210 more than met my expectations. The software was transparent. The machine pumped out a 95-page manuscript in a few minutes without a jam or a problem. The first fax I sent went effortlessly, and when I saw it a few days later, I was impressed with the quality. Received faxes printed crisp and quickly.
In fact, I liked the machine so much, I got one for my other residence. I do a lot of high-quality digital photo printing on a dye sublimation printer, so this unit will only be used occasionally for pictures, but the test photos I did came out very nicely, with good detail, even on plain white inkjet paper.
I hesitate to say it, but so far this machine has done a great job for me printing, faxing and copying. I have yet to try scanning, but I will eventually. For a very reasonably priced (I paid $179 at Circuit City) gizmo that replaced three separate machines, it seems to do a better job than any of them. HP deserves a well-done for this one, at least so far!
