A very good training tool.

The Bottom Line: I prefer to use the "Four Paws Quick-Fit Muzzle" I really like this brand of muzzle because of its durability.
I train dogs professionally. Most of the clients that come to me have the same type problems. My dog chews on everything or my dog barks all night. They want to know the best way to safely get the dog to stop those behaviors. My answer is always the same get a dog muzzle to train the dog to stop those habits.
I prefer the "Four Paws Quick-Fit Muzzle". It comes in the small but also has eight other sizes to fit almost every dog. These are very good training aids, but there is a little bit of work needed on your part. First fit the muzzle to your dog. There is an adjustable strap. The strap goes from the nose behind the dogs head and back to the dogs nose. You'll know if you have it upside down because the strap will be in the dogs eyes. The muzzle should fit over the dogs mouth and nose, it should come to rest just past the nose where the fir begins. If it goes to far past this point or doesn't quite make it there, get a different size. Adjust the strap to make sure you can snap the buckle easily. Do Not over-tighten! Once you have fit the muzzle, take it off by pushing in on sides of the buckle and it's ready to use.
Now here is the way to use it. When your dog starts to bark or chew; tell him "NO" and put the muzzle on for about 15 minutes. Don't worry the dog will be able to pant and drink water. Then take the muzzle off. As soon as the dog bark or chews put it back on for a little longer maybe 20 minutes. Don't leave the muzzle on for over 45 minutes at a time. Take it off if the dog is having problems breathing or cooling down. It won't take long for the dog to associate the bad behavior with having to wear the muzzle and the problem should go away. You may have to remind the dog every now and then by putting the muzzle back on.
I like the "Four Paws Quick-Fit Muzzle" for a few reasons: First it is made of nylon and is almost indestructible. Second it's safe and easy to use. And third it is washable. There is no better way to train a dog than with a muzzle. And best of all the neighbors won't call in the middle of the night complaining about your dog.
