A great product with horrible dependability

The Nyko Intercooler 360 is a great concept. It cools your Xbox 360 significantly and the effects are quite noticeable. Load times are shortened and after several consecutive hours your console will still be running smoothly. Unfortunately it only works about 25% of the time.

When I first purchased the Nyko Intercooler 360 I was excited at the prospect of a longer console life and longer play times. Installing it was a breeze, it simply attaches directly to the power slot and the power cord plugs into the Intercooler, and I was ready to go; and go I did for about the first four times I turned on my console. Around the fifth time I fired up Gears of War the Intercooler started making a loud whirring noise. It continued to make the whirring noise every second or third time I turned it on. The noise was loud enough to be distracting and it was horribly annoying as well.

While that in itself was tolerable, I was eventually unable to power my console on with the Intercooler attached. As soon as I turned on the console the normally green ring on the front would flash red until I removed the fan. I checked all the connections and made sure everything was attached properly and securely and I still had no power. Needless to say I was unimpressed.

Admitedly this product does wonders, reducing the heat of your console by up to ten degrees and prolonging the consoles life considerably. Unfortunately it is nearly impossible to appreciate the benefits of this product when it doesn’t work.

I’m willing to acknowledge the possibility that my Intercooler 360 was faulty. If you are willing to take the risk with your $20 it may pay off. If it does it will definitely pay off when your 360 is still running smooth years down the line. Personally I wouldn’t risk it.
