Author's Review
After walking around the K-Mart department store near us in our state we picked out the Nuby gripper cup for our son. He is nine months old and needed a new cup. He had a Gerber one that was supposed to be spill proof but the plug fell out every single time he shook the cup. This resulting in his getting soaked and our floors becoming a big mess to deal with. Not to mention we could not use it on car rides because of the mess it would leave behind.
Why we chose the Nuby gripper cup:
We searched through all the cups. Ones with one handle on them, ones with ones that had two handles on them and even ones with no handle at all on them. We checked every age factor from birth to toddler to find the one that would best suit his needs and capabilities. We can upon the Nuby gripper cup and knew it was right. It was meant for his age group. And it did not have handles. It had rubber grips around it instead.
This was great since our son had a hard time with the handle cups. They would slip out of his hand or fall off to the side where he could not get a good grasp on them. This one gets held like a bottle only it is thicker. Not to mention that cups with handles on them don't exist for children really so why teach him how to use one that has handles, just to end up teaching him with those that don't again later on? So these are the reasons that we made the Nuby gripper cup our choice.
The price:
The price of the Nuby gripper cup is pretty good where we got it. We ended up paying just $2.99 per cup, and we bought three of them. We got one with yellow, one with green and of course one with blue. These are our usual color choices for our son so that suited us well. We liked the price. It was nice to be able to buy three inexpensive ones that work rather then one costly one that does not work!
The style and colors:
These cups are see through in the middle, even the grips are see through. But the covers are colored in solid colors. The cup is fat on the bottom goes a tad bit skinnier toward the middle and fat again on the top. Sort of like an hour glass shape only not too extreme. The colors that these cups come in to the best of my memory are red, blue, yellow, green pink and more. They have a nice variety that makes them perfect for either gender. The sip part is like a silicone nipple only wide and thin on top like a plastic sippy cup would be only it is silicone.
The cleaning:
To clean the Nuby gripper cups is really easy to do. They are fully dish washer safe. But in case you are with out a dish washer like we are it is easy to clean them using a bottle and nipple brush. We have a combination bottle and nipple brush. The bottle brush is on one side and the nipple brush on the other side. This is the best tool we use to clean the Nuby gripper cup. We use the bottle side to clean the actual cup and the nipple brush part to clean the cover and the plug. These cups are easy to clean.
Spill proof:
The Nuby gripper cup claims to be spill proof. And it sure is! You can tip the cup completely up side down and it will not leak any liquid. The nipple part is bent in right at the top. This means the fluid gets in the bend and not out the holes when it is tipped. Our son shakes it, drops it and still the plug stays in nice and snug. There are never any spills no matter how he uses the cup. I can't complain at all. It is a fully spill proof cup.
Our recommendation:
Buy these cups! They are easy for our son to hold. He may still play with this cup just like the old one. But he can't spill it. He no longer takes a bath in his own drink and he likes these cups. He calls them "cuppy". They hold up to a lot. I have dropped it on the ground out of the diaper bag. And I once left it on top of the car and drove off before realizing it. Even the fall to the ground did not break, scratch or damage the cup.
It is still like new. All in all this cup is the best. They are easy to clean, easy to hold and grip, easy to drink from with little or no effort on our son's part. They are nice looking cups and are great for either gender babies and toddlers. I do recommend giving the Nuby gripper cup a try. They are worth the small price you will pay to try them.
