Product Review

Nokia 6590

by   jgobrien ,   Dec 3, 2002

Pros:  Nokia knows how to build solid cellular telephones

Cons:  GSM Technology still playing catch up

The Bottom Line:  In my case, the hands down winner using AT&T's new GSM technology!

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

I've been using the new Nokia 6590 on AT&T's brand new GSM system which they introduced along with their unlimited usage charter plans. The phone competes directly with its counterpart the Nokia 8390. They are similar or alike in technology except the 6590 has a built in FM radio which you can access with the included earphone. Both Nokia's compete directly with the Sony Ericsson T68 and T68i. I used the Sony/Ericsson T68i for one week when I initially signed up for the AT&T unlimited minutes plan. I was dissatisfied with this phone's call quality and inability to hold onto the system's signal. Once exchanging the phone for the Nokia 6590, all that ceased. The Nokia hands down has much richer call quality and does not possess that hollow/tin sound. The Nokia seems to hold or recognize the signal much better than the Sony which had a tendency to dance around and never show five bars on the signal meter. The Nokia does not have the color display like the Sony/Ericsson which to me didn't matter since I was after call quality and the ability to make and receive calls especially since the GSM system is so new. The Nokia enables me to enjoy the unlimited minutes on AT&T's new system without worrying about dropped or poor sounding calls.
