Cautiously optimistic
Pros:
fun, fairly flexible, give me the net, ma, on the road, and a readable display
Cons:
not totally smooth yet, still has a beta feel, albeit with that indescribable open-source appeal

Author's Review
This is the right direction, and the choice between a blackberry and this device was easy. All I had to do was add unlimited Internet to my Cingular contract. T-Mobile is even better, because for the same $20 they include hotspots, which is their strength, although their basic network is slower. Minor annoyances were the fact that the automatic setup entered the wrong parameters for Cingular, apparently the ones for someone who has a laptop card, but my whole point in buying this device is that I want neither a laptop, nor a smart phone. The fact that I can be out there and do a quick email is half the battle in NYC, or even look something up on a site. In reality however the (free) WiFi availability is not up to snuff, and Earthlink's generous offer of a free Feather WiFi account does not work in NYC... so the next thing will be to switch to a 3G phone with GPRS, and an upcoming N95 with GPRS should just fit the bill. More and more apps available in the new edition helps as well. Google, Skype, etc. Great help on an overseas trip, beats taking a laptop.
