No frills phone that found its way to my heart.
Date of Review: May 17, 2009
The Bottom Line: A wonderful no frills phone.
I got my Nokia 6085 last year when I was getting bored with my other phone. I loved my Nokia so much, I honestly couldn't tell you what my other phone was. In all honesty, I am writing this review posthumously, as my Nokia has died.
As this phone is not readily available anymore, except as a refurb and off market phone, I won't spend too much time on it. I just want people to know that this phone does / did exist and if you can find it, it is a simple, easy to use phone that won't let you down.

FUNCTIONALITY:
This little phone packs a crystal clear phone quality. I have never had a problem with the quality of my calls.
The phone's size is about perfect for me. It is roundish and fits perfectly into my pockets. I sometimes forget I even have the phone in my pocket.
The battery life has been wonderful on this little phone. I usually have to place my phone on the charger, overnight while sleeping, once a week.
The speakerphone is a little choppy and not as clear as the phone itself, but the volume is perfect. I have never had anyone tell me to speak up while on the speakerphone and I never have a hard time hearing anyone else. I love that I can activate the speakerphone and then close the phone and place it on the counter and continue to talk.
The camera is easy to use, although the button is in a very bad place. The camera button is located on the left side of the phone, just underneath the volume controls. I am always having to look and make sure I am actually pressing the camera button and not the volume buttons.
I do not use the IM or text messaging features that come with the phone and Nokia apparently knew some people would not use these features. Nokia allows you to set your own shortcut keys. It comes preprogrammed with the up key accessing IM, but I changed it to access my recent calls list instaed. I also changed the down key and the left key to some of my other more frequently used features. I absolutely love that I can customize my phone for my usage.
DURABILITY: I had one previous Nokia that died for no reason, so I was very worried initially about the durability of this phone. I have been more than pleasantly surprised. I have dropped this phone, kicked this phone, and it still works.
Although, I have had this phone for about a year and the battery life is not as good now as it was when I first got it. I find myself having to recharge it twice a week instead of once a week.
The sad day came when I walked into the kitchen to grab my trusty little Nokia to make a call and noticed it sitting in a small pool of water that overflowed from the kitchen sink. I immediately took out the battery and dried everything off. The next day it became quickly apparent I was in need of a new phone, as my Nokia would not start up again. I know cell phones aren't meant to withstand water submersion; however, this phone wasn't dumped into the sink or toilet, it was just sitting on a wet counter.
My husband's Motorola has been submerged countless times, I am very rough on my phones, and it still works like new. I even drove 10 miles with it on the trunk of my car in a massive Florida thunderstorm, took it apart, dried it off, and it worked like new, no problems. That is durability! This little Nokia died after sitting on a wet counter. As for durability, I am highly dissapointed with this Nokia.
BOTTOM LINE: Up until the Nokia died a very sad death, this phone was great to me. It was a very simple, no frills phone that I had no problems with. I loved my Nokia 6085 and had no desire to get a new one.
