Product Review

Best piece of baby gear we bought!

by   fiddledebi ,   Jan 16, 2003

Pros:  Very portable, easy to put on, babies LOVE these!

Cons:  Can take getting used to

The Bottom Line:  I think this is the greatest thing we bought for our newborn daughter. She loves it, we love it, and we can't recommend it enough!

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

My daughter is a snuggler -- she wants to be held all the time. When she was born, she was only 5lbs 7oz -- way too small for any of the front carriers. She disappeared into the Baby Bjorn and hated it anyway. After three weeks of not being able to eat, go to the bathroom, or get dressed without her screaming because I put her down, I happened upon this sling in a baby store.

I tried it on in the store, put her in it, and she almost immediately went to sleep. She loved it! The video that came with it explained some different ways to wear it and carry her, but she prefers the newborn carry -- like she's riding in a little hammock. I have my hands free and she's happy as a clam.

Even my husband "wears" our daughter in the sling. It's adjustable with an easy pull of the strap, and has a great shoulder pad that can double as a little pillow for the baby when she's really little.

A couple of things to note about using a sling in general, though:

1. It takes some getting used to. There are no buckles or straps to keep the baby in -- it's your body and the fabric that do the work there. So, you can't bend over from the waist or the baby will start to fall. You have to bend from the knees. I know I'm going to have fabulous quads by the time she's out of this carrier! That said, she has never fallen out, or even come close. You have to just use common sense when wandering around doing housework, etc.

2. People seem to think that slings are weird. In stores, on walks, everywhere I go, people comment on it, saying everything from "what an interesting carrier!" to "oh my gosh! She looks so scrunched up in there!" Remember that being snuggled close to you (without arms and legs dangling like with a front carrier) is what babies are used to from the womb. Until she was about 8 weeks old, my daughter fell asleep within moments of being put in the sling. Now, she'll stay awake a bit, but it's just so soothing for her that mostly she relaxes all the way into a deep sleep. Anyway, be prepared for comments.

Overall, I would recommend this carrier to ANYONE with a baby. It's fantastic!
