Author's Review
Garth Brooks' Album "No Fences" has been around for approximately 10 years now, but it has not lost its flavor yet. Most people believe that country music is just for pouty babies who sing about "their dog dying, and their baby leaving them". This assumption is truly wrong, especially in the case of the Master, Garth Brooks. In "No Fences", Garth examines true problems that all of us face in life, and puts them to great melodies that we will never forget.
The album begins with "The Thunder Rolls", a song talking about a man who has been having affair, and has to come home to his wife who has been waiting on him. Brooks describes the emotions involved inside these two people, and this is a problem that many people have: The desire for infidelity, and facing up to it with your original partner. There is no more of a real topic for a song, and that is what makes Brooks what he is.
But Garth, especially in this album, combines all of the things that we like to hear about. In "Two of a King, Working on a Full House", he describes his baby and why she is so important to him. Then in "Friends in Low Places" he creates the ultimate beer drinkin, bar hopping song. There is no song better for a good time and some good yellin and whoopin. In Track #7, "Wild Horses", Garth talks about all of the outside desires that pull us away from our homes and our normal lives. He uses the analogy of rodeo, but in reality he is talking generally about temptations that keep things interesting. Next, maybe one of the greatest songs he has ever written, "Unanswered Prayers" talks about how Garth wished that he would marry his High school sweetheart, but instead he found his wife and he loves her now. He meets his high school sweetheart again at a reunion, and the spark is gone. He thanks God "for those Unanswered Prayers".
Brooks goes from meaningful, to partying, to reflective in the album "No Fences." This album is great, and fun, and also makes you think about things.
