Author's Review
I bought this new in November. It was my first truck in more that 15 years. I opted for the Crew Cab with the 5ft bed as I was concerned about the turning radius.
It's two months later and I felt I'd been driving it long enough to give a fair review, so here goes!
Fit and finish: Excellent, what you'd expect from a top Japanese import. Came with a a sprayed on bedliner, nice touch! My friend just bought a new Tacoma last week. He got a crappy plastic lining and a 6ft bed...he's jealous, particularly since his crew cab + 6ft bed doesn't fit in his garage right now!
Comfort: No complaints at all from me or passangers in the back. I've put almost 8,000 miles on it (not normal, just some long necessary trips) and I'm very pleased with the seating and ride.
Convenience: Excellet. I've used the bed more than I ever thought I would! The rail system is excellent in the bed, and the four doors give it car-like accessibility. I have the 16" tires so the truck sits up high, excellent visability all around.
Power/Gas Mileage: I'm getting 22mpg fairly consistently with an in-town/freeway combination. Excellent power with the six cylinder during excelleration.
Price: I was able to get a crazy deal on this truck. It took me four long hours and a couple of departures from the Finance Managers office, but I ended up getting $6k off the sticker price. For this price I was very pleased with the value.
Now there are a few minor complaints about the truck. This wouldn't be an accurate review if there weren't! In no particular order:
1. The tailgate is HEAVY. The first time I had to fill up to get gas, an older guy pulls up in a new Tacoma. We swapped stories, and he told me he loved the Nissan but didn't like the heavy tailgate. I didn't check that when I bought (no reason to) so of course I immediately went to the rear of the truck to check. He was definetly telling the truth, it's very heavy compared to the Tacoma.
2. Turning radius is large. It's a truck though!
3. Wish it had a pass through rear window.
4. Handling is rough in cornering, but again, it's a truck!
I guess that's it for this review! Hope it helps you make a decision!
