Product Review

A good value

by   bigoletruk ,   Jan 11, 2008

Pros:  attractive, powerful, lots of standard features, good value

Cons:  turning radius, cheap interior

The Bottom Line:  I would recommend this car because of the value for the price. Powerful engine, lots of interior room.

Overall Rating: 3/5 stars

Author's Review

I purchased the new Nissan Maxima SE because I loved the exterior styling and head-turning looks. The interior is very roomy and this car has a list of impressive standard features (some of which are options on the Honda Accord). It has a very powerful engine and a very stiff ride (typical in a sports sedan). The tiptronic shifting gives you the sporty feel of a manual transmission, but can be switched to automatic whenever you want.

I love the innovative SkyView moonroof. It does not open to the outside (like a standard sun roof) but does allow light in. It also has a shade which can be closed.

The informational dash display is a little bit blurry. The salesman assured me this was normal. There are lots of buttons and features which take a while to get used to. Don't attempt to fidget with them while driving until you've owned the car a while!

Some of the interior components are cheap plastic. The sunglasses holder on the ceiling kept falling open. And their are gaps around the seams of some of the plastic parts.

The biggest complaint I have about this car is the turning radius. I've had a full size truck that turned a tighter circle than this so-called "sports sedan." While this isn't a "make-it-or-break-it" issue for some people, I've found it more and more annoying the longer I drove the car. For instance, it is sometimes difficult to pull into a parking space because you cannot turn sharply. You have to swing wider, which sometimes means backing up to make it in! And forget about doing a U-turn on any standard street. You'll need to do at least a 3-point turn, if not more.
