Author's Review
I bought our pathfinder in may 2004 as a rebuilt. Yup front end was smashed up and its was completely rebuilt. I picked up our auto SE 4X4 model for $20,000 CDN about(15,500 US). It had 32,000 miles so I fiqured it was a pretty good deal.
What I like about this truck?
Appearance - I like the simple truck look. I don't care for the new space age machines like the nissan murano or the carlike toyota highlander. I really would have liked the 17" LE wheels, but you can't have everything.
Power - This truck moves pretty quick. Can hold 75 mph up mountain hills fully loaded. I've haven't hauled anything really heavy but apparently its supposed to work good.
Options - My truck has the AUTO Awd option, which automatically distributes power to the front wheels when slipping. Nice Big Sunroof lets in plenty of light. Love the design on the cloth seats and doors. Keyless entry, automatic headlights, foglights, roof rack and bose sound system are all great features.
Reliability - Pathfinders are proven to be reliable workhorses. I have put about 10,000 miles and probably won't have to bring it to a shop for another 150,000 miles (except scheduled maintenance of course)
What I don't like about this truck
Fuel efficiency - On a full tank (approx 17 gallons) I'm lucky to get 250 miles. Maybe its a problem because its rebuilt, but judging my other owners I'm not alone. Maybe I'm just used to little Civic.
Tires - The Bridgestone Duellers highway tires should not be stock on a 4x4. They are completely useless in snow and dangerous in rain. After getting new Toyo All Terrains the ride is much more trucklike and the 4x4 can do its job.
Little things - The back door needs to be slammed to close properly (I'm not alone on this one), the vent on top of the dash squeeks, rear seating is limited to smaller adults, but the reclining rear seats are a bonus. The automatic transmission gets a little confused up hills sometimes, staying in low gears too long.
I have never owned a Nissan before but so far am very pleased with it. Would recommend this truck to anyone.
