Major Problems with New Altima
Date of Review: Jan 5, 2003
The Bottom Line: I would not recommend this car to anyone until Nissan learns how to fix this defect.
I purchase the 2002 Altima about 3 weeks after they came out in the market. Everything was going great until about 4 months after the purchase of the vehicle when my car wouldn't start. I had to wait about a half hour until it turned on. I did not bring it to Nissan to tell them b/c I thought it was due to the cold weather. Until last September (2002) when I woke up to 60 degree weather and my car wouldn't start up again. I had to wait about 45 minutes before my car would turn on. This time I brought it to Nissan. They said the some switch needed to be adjusted and that was that. Well two months later (December 2002) my car would not turn on again. I brought it over to Nissan when they now told me that they couldn't diagnose my car b/c my VIN # was not coming up on their computers. So they had to replace my COMPUTER SYSTEM in my car. Now, a new car needing a new computer?? Talk about being defective. Well, I just got my car back with it's new computer system and guess what, now my car is three times worse!!! Now my car shuts off on me while I am driving. It shuts off everything I turn it on. The only way my car stays on is if I floor the pedal. Least to say I am always in my car with my 15 month old son. I now have to take it to Nissan for a third time for the same problem but now worse.
I am currently filing my car under the "Lemon Law". This is not fun at all. And I have read on other websites that I am not the only one experiencing this problem. There are many other people having this same problem with Nissan telling them the same thing "NOTHING"
