Author's Review
My wife purchased her 1997 Nissan maxima just under 3 years ago. the car had 65K and was in great condition. White with 16 inch alloys and fabric interior. In three year, we now have 90K on the car and it purrs like a kitten.
Roomy, comfortable (but a little tight for me as i am 6 ft 2 inches tall), and very good on gas mileage all make this car a great used car buy. the interior is well made, but there are a few things Nissan did that makes me wonder. The ON button for the cruise control is a pain in the butt to get to and the emergency break is a bit to close to the driver. that's about it!
The car accelerates great and stop almost as great. handling is great considering its a larger car. I take turns real tight with it. Road noise is minimal even when little tread is on the tire and bumps are taken very smoothly. Gas mileage is good, we are averaging about 25 mpg city and highway. On the highway, I have estimated close to 30 mpg at cruising speed with not much weight on the pedel.
There is plenty of room for 4 adults or 2 adults and 3 kids. the trunk it roomy as well however the seats to not fold down. the tape/cd player sounds good, the AC is cold and the heater - very hot!
Mechanically, the car is a charm. Since we have owned it, the spark plugs, front brakes, front struts and both engine belts have been replaced - THAT'S IT! not bad for 90K! The tires are on their way out this summer and some minor repairs are in order.
