I bought my Nissan Sentra used several years ago and I've had my moments of abuse towards this car...but it's got guts!
It's a small car, so it doesn't have that "solid" feel like a heavier car, but at over 25 mpg with 130k miles on it and a 4-speed transmission, it's worth it!
And dependable! I've replaced the alternator myself and nearly overheated the engine when the belt fell off (due to my own error), but this car STILL goes strong!
It sat in storage for nearly 2 years and (after putting a new battery in it) it started right up and got me around!
It's a great car for someone on a tight budget (cheap to run, maintain and insure) that knows a little about cars because it's easy to maintain. I don't know much about cars, but I've done nearly all the tune-ups and repairs on this car myself. (Chilton has been helpful!)
Okay, it doesn't look all that pretty. It's boxy with sharp corners and it's got a high profile for its size. But when it's clean and shiny, it's got a good look. And I recommend the 5-speed, but the 4-speed isn't bad.
Yes, I'm planning on getting the PT Cruiser next, but I'm not going to trade in my Nissan! It'll make a great 2nd car -- ideal for getting to and from work while the Cruiser will come out on the weekends!
