Author's Review
Ive had my 1985 Nissan Maxima station wagon for about a year and a half now. It was a hand me down car from my grandfather, and got it with about 195,000 miles. I just love the car, its never really ever failed me. The only thing that ever failed was the radiator and a radiator hose, but the radiator blew after i took her out in the snow and was drifting in it, and the hose blew after i did 103 mph and it was just a small cut. I do take very good care of her, with synthetic oil changes every 2,000 miles, aproxmately (with mobil 1). Ive also changed the spark plugs twice. The paint is two tone beige and dark brown, but its still there, and almost flawless, theres only 1 dent, in the door pannel, but its not too bad. Its got some rust, but its nothing major, and imposible to see except from the bottom. It has some minor timing problems, but all the belts including timing have to be replaced, as normal wear items. Ive beaten pretty much any large suv that i have raced. This is due to, i believe, the power to weight ratio i have over them. Its an automatic, so i use the low gears on the transmission as a kind of "fake manual". I've held up to 8 people in it, with no noticeable lag in performance. What it does excell in is lights, there are two parking lights, two headlights, and my own addition of two fog lights and two driving lights, which are much more effective than HIDs. There is also a small identification light between the foglights so my friends know its me. It has 3 sirens, 2 for emergency use and 1 "truck back up" type. It has modified windshield washer guns that shoot foward, up to ~8 feet in front of the car. It has a very high performance head unit with 4 5.25 inch speakers and two 1 inch tweeters, an equalizer and (non working) automatic volume controller. I put in a 400 watt inverter which is plenty. Its got 4 POWERFULL disc brakes, though no anti locking system. e brake functions ok, but the cables need to be replaced. It runs on 15 inch 4 lug aluminum rims, which dissapate heat easily. This car also does talk instead of beeping. runs a little hot, but i do usally run 89 or higher gas in it. It dosen't have airbags, but the front of the car has a large crumple zone. Works great in the snow, since its front wheel drive. once i lost control in the snow and was traveling perpendicular to the road on a highway, but the car didnt flip over and i jammed on the ebrake and it regained itself. it still needs a little work, but nothing thats actually required for it to run on a day to day basis.
