I always Gloat on the Wii Remote!

The Wiimote or Wii Remote is what makes the Nintendo Wii so much different from all of the other video game consoles! Yes, the Wii still uses the same type of games and uses them as discs. Yes, the Wii still uses the same buttons. But with the Wii Remote it can sense activity which makes you get involved in the games a lot more!

~~~The Design~~~

The Wiimote looks very similar to a regular TV remote. It has a long, rectangular shape. At the top left corner of the controller is the Power button which turns the Wii (and the Wiimotes) on or off. Then at the top there is the Control Pad and the A button. The A button is usually the main button that is used during the games. Right underneath the A button, on the bottom, there is the B trigger. Now, in the middle of the remote there is a speaker which will make a noise if it is your turn or something like that.

Then there are 3 more buttons. The + and – buttons will pause the game or act as the Start and Select buttons on many Wii games. The Home button is in the middle of the + and – buttons and it will take you to the home screen. This button has the picture of a house on it. At the bottom there are the 1 and 2 buttons which are rarely used and also have a different purpose. At the bottom of the controller there is an opening where you can attach the classic controller or the nunchuk. The Wii Remote has a very nice, sleek design and a white, glossy finish!

~~~What it is Good For~~~

The Wiimote is a great controller for a lot of reasons! You can use it as a pointer for games like Wii Play or when you are looking at the Home Menu. Many games use the sensor to tell for speed, tilting, or moving the Wii Remote around! The Wii Remote is probably my favorite controller out of every game system! It is also nice because you can listen to the speaker on the Wii Remote and also feel it rumble when you are hit in a fighting game or something like that.

~~~How it Works~~~

You may be wondering how the Wii knows what this controller is doing. Well, when you first set up your Wii you put a sensor bar up either above or below your TV. Since there is also a sensor on the front of the controller, it can easily detect what the Wiimote is doing, how far away, and a whole lot of other things!

~~~The Speaker~~~

My favorite thing about the Wii Remote is that there is a speaker built in to the controller so that you can hear the sound of fighting on a game such as Mario, or when it is your turn to bowl on Wii Sports! This is one of the things that makes the Wiimote so much different than the other controllers! It makes your whole experience more fun!

~~~The Batteries~~~

The only thing I don’t like about the Wii Remote is the batteries. You would think that with all the amazing technology they could find another way to charge the Wii Remotes such as wireless from the Wii! But instead, these controllers use simple Double A batteries. You can buy a Dock Station to charge the Wiimotes in, but that costs you extra! I suggest just getting a Battery Charger and some Rechargeable Batteries. That will cost you about the same amount of money, but you can use it for anything instead of just your Wii Remotes!

~~~Overall Recommendation~~~

I recommend getting a 2nd Wii Remote because most games will use it and the Wii already comes with one! They cost around $40. The Wiimote has amazing technology and it is amazing how some of the games use it!
