Gameboy Color was my daughter's reward for a perfect report card last year. Purple was the flavor of the month, and purple was the color that she wanted, along with Pokemon Blue game to accompany the Gameboy.
Picture a handheld console smaller than your telephone cradle that would enable you to play games with ease and surprisingly incredible graphic clarity. That's Gameboy, another step in the direction of mobile fun and condensed screen graphics.
The game itself requires three Triple A batteries but also has an adapter for longer life. A must have accessory to go with the Gameboy is the Worm Light. The Worm Light is about seven inches long and attaches neatly to the gameboy unit to provide a light for dark areas, such as long car rides to Grandma's house or poorly lit rooms.
The volume control slides up and down and can be muted for those times that Mom and Dad do not want to hear the repetitive music from the most recent game.
Currently, these are the top five games that are among the most popular with Gameboy Color:
Pokemon Gold/Silver
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
Legend of Zelda DX-Link's Awakening
Mario Tennis
Megaman Extreme
More games are available in the following fields:
Adventure
Flight Sim
Puzzle
Racing
RPG (Role Playing Games)
Sports
Fighting
Party
Wrestling
Many personal and corporate reviews of Gameboy have found that certain racing type games, such as the bloody and disgusting Carmageddon, don't fare as well or translate as well on the smaller screen. Personally speaking, my child will never play or own such a game.....not under my roof anyway, so that is not an important point in our household.
However, if you do plan to play extensive racing games, the Gameboy unit may not be the best choice for your needs.
Another plus for purchasing the GameBoy was the fact that since it's purchase one year ago, I haven't been asked to buy any additional software or hardware to maintain or keep the unit going, certainly a plus in any parent's book.
I bought my Gameboy online at Toys-R-US and used a promotional code I had from another purchase, saving me the cost of shipping and handling on the Gameboy. It arrived within one week of ordering the unit, in perfect condition.
My daughter had it set up and working in minutes and has enjoyed the unit for the past year, with the exception of the time she "lost" it over her friend's house.
Here's one of the major drawbacks in this newly condensed world of ours, in my opinion. We are shrink wrapping everything, yet sometimes smaller just isn't better! My daughter brought her gameboy over to her friends house a few months ago and forgot it there. Six months later, it was returned when her friend's room was cleaned, found shoved underneath the bed along with the other junk.
Now if Gameboy was a bit bigger, we would never have a problem finding him, would we?
This is a fun toy, and it provides incredible graphics for any RPG or racing game that goes with it, along with hours of enjoyment for kids and adults alike.
