Author's Review
Since I have been sick, I have been having to travel a lot for medical reasons. Anyone who sits through long car rides knows how boring it can be. For months now, I have begged for a Game Boy. Didn't have to be the new Game Boy, just the classic would have done just fine.
For Christmas, my dear sweet husband listened. He bought me a Game Boy Color. It's the teal colored one. Very nice. Very pretty. I was just thrilled to unwrap it and even more delighted to see it's marvels.
Game Boy Color is amazing. Great graphics on such a small screen inside such a compact unit. Yet it is so much fun. The game choices are endless for this unit. Of course, they are anywhere from $20 to $40 per game, but definitely worth it.
The accessories for this console aren't bad at all. For $4 at WalMart, I got a magnifying screen and light for the system. For $4 more, I got a car adapter so I wouldn't use all of my batteries. For about $7 you can get a nice case so your unit doesn't get all scratched up in transit.
Remember the old Game Boy units? Remember how they took a zillion batteries? The Game Boy Pocket took 4 AAA batteries. The Game Boy Color only takes 2 AA batteries and they were even included! Way to go Nintendo!
With my Game Boy, I received Jeopardy, Jeff Gordon XS Racing, ECW Hardcore Wrestling, and Pro Pool. The graphics on these games are unreal. The quality is excellent. The sounds are great. Jeopardy is very real. The only downfall of course is that you have to move the cursor around to spell out each answer you put in. Racing is marvelous on this system. Very action packed. Wrestling is just amazing as well. The little characters can do so much in such a small space! As for pool, I am amazed. You can see the colors of each ball and see the action as you shoot the balls. I am captivated!
Game Boy is addictive. The only warning I give is to limit your play. There are risks of seizures as with any video game but the small screen probably encourages it more. Some games even pop up warnings after a while. My racing game does this inbetween levels and tracks. Just play for a while, save and come back to it later.
All in all, I would give the Game Boy Color an excellent rating. I was just totally thrilled to receive it. Just can't wait to add more games to the collection so that I have more variety. I don't get bored easily but am excited to see what each game offers!
