Author's Review
First I must explain that I have resisted switching from film cameras to digital for many years. Yes I own a digital point and shoot, I guess everyone does, but as a working pro my Nikon F3, F5 and my medium format cameras have been my mainstay. I got an assignment that required digital images ASAP. Rather than shooting film, developing then scanning them into digital I decided to purchase a Digital SLR. I did not want to go to the bottom of the line, and I wanted my 25 plus Nikkor lenses to be usable so I looked at the Nikon line. I settled on the D70s due to the features available and price point. I was not going to spend thousands on the D2X and I saw little difference (to my use) of the D100. Exposure with a film camera is limited to f/stop and shutter speed and choice of film/light source. The Digital gives you a much wider latitude with ISO, f/stop, shutter speed, RAW mode, etc. After a little practice and time I found the results rival that of my medium format cameras. The body is light and comfortable to use. I learned not to "spin" the wheels near the shutter release (F/stop - shutter speed). Here is what I bought as a "starter system": Body D70s, 18mm-70mm zoom lens, SB800 flash, flip cover for the display, 2 Gig memory card, extra batteries and a small case. This camera has reenergized my desires and extended my creative processes.
