Author's Review
I recently purchased a new Nikon D70 SLR Kit that included the 18-70mm DX lens. It has been many years since I used a 35mm SLR since I converted to digital back when 2 mg pixel cameras hit the market. I feel as if I have grown up with the digital camera revolution starting with a Nikon Coolpix 950 and progressing with a Nikon Coolpix 5700. In an attempt to record my daughters soccer and dancing exploits, I have been in search of a camera that offers the versatility of rapid response, long zoom, and indoor/outdoor use. All cameras to this point have fallen short of my goal. Each previous camera had some shortcoming that prevented me from enjoying the experience and focusing more on a work around to obtain what I was looking for in a camera. With the purchase of the D70 and only a short week in use, I can honestly say that I think my search has ended. The D70 is incredibly responsive, extremely smart, and offers unmatched versatility when combined with different lenses. From a price perspective, I paid little more for this amazing camera than previously for my point and shoot digitals. Save your money spent on a point and shoot and get the D70. In fully automatic mode (or one of it variable programs) anyone can take great pictures with no hassle. The most impressive aspect of this camera is its speed. It starts immediately, responds to your slightest touch to the shutter, loads images with ease in the background, processes images from card to camera with ease (regardless of the card speed), focuses incredibly fast, and has more capabilities than any camera I have ever owned. Cudos, Nikon, for creating an exciting product that anyone will love to use, regardless of experience. Forget the point and shoot cameras (unless size is an issue) and get a digital SLR like the D70.
