Finally, a camera with better images than my C2100
Date of Review: Mar 11, 2004
The Bottom Line: If you like TRUE Photography, you can't do better.
I have owned an Olympus C2100 for 4 years, and have taken some of the most amazing images with it. I have been searching for it's replacement for the last year, and I have FINALLY found it. Even though it was only 2.1 MP, the C2100 would blow away most other camera when it came to telephoto work due to it's amazing lens. I tried 3 Canon models, with mixed results, one consumer Nikon, one Sony. None could match, even with twice the pixels.
With this new Nikon, (which I have owned for 2 months)I am now able to use my high-end Nikon lenses, on a STABLE body, and produce images better than the old C2100. The resolution is there IF you learn to use the controls properly, and avoid highly compressed JPEG's. Also, be sure to set the sharpening to Normal or High. For some reason, the Auto sharpening results in softer images. This camera also works well in Manual mode with most of the old Nikkor lenses, which is a treat. With the 1.5x factor, I now have a 210mm F2.0 lens, which is something any old film guy would have died for. Yeah, I have to manually focus and set exposures... but isn't that what makes photography fun? And, with the digital format, I can easily try again if my first shot was wrong.
I couldn't be happier.
