Nice product, Poor support
Date of Review: Jan 9, 2003
The Bottom Line: 1) Excellent product (High quality manufacture), except for the software. 2) Nikon needs a better support department.
I'm very happy with the camera, the quality and construction are excellent. Unfortunately I have two complains:
1) Software.
I cannot believe that such expensive camera does NOT include the required software to handle pictures on the computer, C3 Nikon software is not included with the camera!!, and the only way to handle RAW format pictures is by using that software. Additionally, if you need to capture pictures directly on your computer you have to use (=to buy) that software ($180)
Finally, if needed to update the firmware, you have to send back your camera to Nikon. I live in south America, can you image how can I do that??
2) Support
When I received the camera, the manual was a photocopy. I wrote to Nikon support about the C3 software and the manual issue and this was the answer
"The Nikon View software is included with the camera. This software is
sophisticated enough for most users. For those who want more
capability, we offer Capture 3. Not every user will want or need this
software.
We deliver the camera to the dealer with an original instruction
manual. If the dealer has not provided this to you, he has not included one of
the necessary accessories that should have been included. We suggest
you contact the dealer about this oversite.
Suggested retail price for the Nikon Capture is $180.00. This
Accessory is available through Nikon authorized dealers. We suggest you contact
the Nikon distributor in your country or region for the names of
dealers."
My questions are:
What's the purpose of Nikon's support department, if everything has to be solved with dealers? They don't care about customers complains.
If I bought one of the best cameras in the market, why I cannot use all the functionality included (If I want to, I have to pay additional $180)
