VERY HAPPY WITH PURCHASE
Date of Review: Aug 20, 2003
The Bottom Line: I can't see why anyone (expect an anal professional) would be disappointed with their purchase.
I was referred to the 4300 by two friends that own the cam and really like it. I checked it out at Best Buy and Circuit City, both of whom's "advisors" recommended the 4300 as well (for my price range). I bought it on the internet, and have enjoyed beautiful pics for about a month and a half now.
First off, I'm NOT a camera/photography pro (nor amateur!). I just like pointing, clicking and enjoying. I educated myself on megapixels, memory cards/sticks, etc and went to Best Buy.
This camera takes the clearest, sharpest pictures I have ever seen, and my cousin has a professional grade 35mm. When set on the highest quality and resolution, I can fit 150 pics on a 256mb Sandisk card. Lower the resolution, and you can get that number over a thousand. Not bad.
The LCD is very clear and even easy to read in bright conditions. The sight glass zooms with the optical zoom (but not with the digital). The setup and menu functions are extremely easy to comprehend, although the manual is the size of a small novel. The standard battery lasts about 2 hours of hard use (I have the camera set to powersave at 1 minute of non-use), and boots back up in about 7 seconds. I have been called "clumsy" in the past, and have "clumsily" banged, semi-dropped and minorly beaten this camera in the short time that I have owned it; not a single scratch, dent, ding or misfunction.
My sole issue with the camera is the seemingly slow shutter. I attended an air show 3 weekends ago, and took some great shots, but others were out of center because the shutter didn't click within a reasonable amount of time. But alas, I was told by those in the know that a digital camera is not meant for high action shots. So be it.
I have no reservation recommending this camera to anyone. I wasn't disappointed in the least.
