Product Review

Better than previous Nikons and very satisfying

by   Kazari ,   Jul 18, 2004

Pros:  AA batteries are the biggest advantage.

Cons:  Relatively expensive.

The Bottom Line:  This camera is probably the best camera on the market in its space.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

I buy Nikon cameras a lot for my work (it is compatible with both Windows and Macs) and have probably bought 8 Nikon 885s over the last three years -- we even bought one for work.

I really like the 3.2 Megapixel size. I think it's a wonderful compromise between too big and too small -- it's big enough for publication (which is why we give it at my work -- for student newspapers) and small enough to be used by a connsumer (oh, say, a high school student).

This particular model is really far superior to the 885 in several ways.,

1. It takes AA batteries. This is really important because you can change batteries anywhere rather than wair t for the chargeable battery to charge. That battery is also very expensive ($40)

2. It's small. And light.

3. Its movie mode produces really good movies.

4. The new memory system they use can hold really, really large memory cards, which in the mode I was using for movies gave me about 20 minutes of video (which was amazing to me). It outputs them in Quicktime (mov) files, which is a really open format that is easy for find editing software for free.

So to sum up, I am very happy with this camera and would definitely buy it again.
