a great lens to use with great results

Date of Review: Jan 27, 2003

The Bottom Line:  If you love wide angle and you don't mind the investment, you will be very satisfied. Its performance it top notch.
This lens continues to surprise me with its performance. Outdoors, it seems you can capture limitless wide angle shots with amazing depth of field, and then look down and get a picture of a flower from nearly 6" away from the end of the lens. Each picture will turn out sharp and tightly focused with color as vivid as your chosen film can record. You have the ability to capture a whole room with one dramatic shot in relatively low light, making it great for architecture shots.
Another great feature of this lens is its ease of use. Manual override is nearly instant so you don't have to take your hand off the lens to correct focus when the camera decides it want to focus on a different subject. Speaking of focus, it is nearly instant on my N80, and it also is very quick on the N65. With these two cameras I recommend getting the battery packs to improve the grip on the camera since the lens is a little heavy. The F100 and F5 will most likely focus faster, but this is probably overkill with this particular lens.
Although costly, I have never regretted investing in this useful piece of hardware. It is truly worth every penny.
