Nikon 50mm 1.4 is worth the extra dollars

I purchased this lens last week, prior to using this lens, I used the Nikon 50mm 1.8D. The Nikon 50mm 1.4D lens is night and day compared. The first thing I noticed was the depth of field difference you get with this lens. If you shoot manual at 1.4, you images are crispy clear with natural light. I have shot portraits with the 50mm 1.8 lens and they come out a little distorted compared to life.

If you were to take a portrait with the 50mm 1.8 and the 50mm 1.4 with the camera set to the same shutter and aperture on both lenses at the same distance from the subject, the physical form you shoot with the 50mm 1.4 is more true to life.

I shoot with a Nikon D1x, so for me, the 1.5 CCD makes this lens a 75mm, this is GREAT for portrait photography and the low light means I can shoot in situations I would normally require a flash.

The clarity at which this lens shoots is incredible.

I would suggest to anyone that is thinking of buying a first lens to try this one, it has the perfect focal length for the only lens in the bag and is a GREAT way to start off your lens collection the right way.
