by   donna42mass ,  Sep 20, 2008
Pros: Excellent picture quality, long battery life,
Cons:

focusing in lowlight areas

The Bottom Line: I love it, for my first SLR camera it was a great choice.
Review: Last year I bought my first SLR camera, I had wanted one for a long time. I really like this camera, the pictures come out beautiful. The battery life is fantastic. What I use this camera for is paranormal investigating. This camera does filter ...

user friendly, quality photos without the high price

by   niyikciv ,  Jul 28, 2007
Pros: very user friendly, has all the regular features of SLRs, takes clear and quality photos
Cons: LCD gets marks from the nose very easily
The Bottom Line: Great, flexible camera with quality results that'll encourage you to shoot more and more! User-friendly camera has all the functions you need; a great non-overpriced SLR.
Review: The Nikon D40 is not a heavy, bulky and complicated SLR to use. As an amateur, I wanted something that will introduce me to the world of photography without the complications, but with the great SLR features. It takes great photos (6.1 Megapixel) ...

Great for parents of kids on the move!

by   abbywarm ,  Feb 24, 2009
Pros: Quick shutter speed
Rapid fire capabilities
Clear prints - even at large sizes
Very user-friendly
Cons: Rapid-fire shooting only works without a flash
The Bottom Line: I would highly recommend this camera to any novice photographer wishing to purchase an easy-to-use SLR camera.
Review: I'm in love...with this camera!  This is my first SLR camera.  We have young kids (ages two and three) who rarely stand still long enough for a picture or smile long enough for me to catch the smile with my point and shoot camera.  This ...

Great Camera!

by   starrynitesky ,  Dec 24, 2006
Pros: Lightweight, excellent pictures, fast shutter, not complicated, very detailed photos
Cons: zoom lens only goes to 55mm Wish grip was a bit larger
The Bottom Line: Great for anyone wanting to upgrade from point and shoot but not going all the way to Pro level.
Review: Just purchased the Nikon D40. I had a Pentax SLR for a long time and just got tired of lugging all the lenses with me and it just got to be more of a hassle than fun. Now, with 2 kids I did not have the time or space to take it with me. We used a Kodak ...

Nikon D40 Excellent starter slr, Sir

by   gtsaracen ,  Dec 28, 2006
Pros: solid body, metering good most times,
Cons: metering-rarely.limited accessories.mount on lens flimsy!just picking very small holes.
The Bottom Line: Nikon have a very good starter camera here, they have listened to the enthusiasts and provided a very good introduction for the Nikon system.
Review: Well were should I start, this camera is good really good, usable prints straight from the camera right up to iso 1600, possibly better than some 8meg cams and pushes the 10 meg too. Less can mean more and does here by my experience. The body is quite ...

Nikon's low-end too low

by   sailingshot ,  Dec 6, 2006
Pros: Small, great image quality as always
Cons: Too small, uses small selection of lenses, no LCD on top, dark finder vs. D80.
The Bottom Line: Get a D50, D70s, D80, D200, D2Hs, D2X. Would you buy an Ipod that only played Paris Hilton music?
Review: Before anyone has a cow and ships it to me with a case of stale buns....YES, I have handled the D40. It was at a trade show and I got to play with the camera for a bit. I even got to shoot a few shots and slap a better lens on it. Now let's get right to ...
