Coolpix S550 is GREAT

The Nikon Coolpix S550 Digital camera is a GREAT camera.  The first thing that you will notice is the incredible sharpness of the large LCD display!  It is one of the best displays I've seen and THE best in this price range.

The lens optics are extremely good.  Photos have a crisp sharp focus and vibrant colors.  You could easily blow them up to a large size print and not get the least bit of graininess. 

The camera is compact, but not too small.  It isn't one of those that you feel you are going to drop each time you use it.  The case looks well-built and should hold up well under normal use.

Battery life is very good but you will probably want a spare battery if you plan any extended photo shoots.

Flash is very good for a compact camera with decent range and even lighting of the subject.

With the Coolpix S550 you even get your choice of colors (I like "plum" myself.)

The camera is loaded with features, but is as easy to use as you want it to be.  You can leave it set up as a regular point-and-shoot camera or customize the settings for more professional options.

This would make a great camera for an older teen, college grad, or for the home photographer who wants a camera with options to grow with your experience.  It is probably too complicated (and too expensive) for a younger teen's needs.
