Drive by this car crash! Bad customer service too!
Date of Review: Feb 21, 2008
The Bottom Line: I do not recommend this camera, I think it's just awful. Nikon's customer service is bad also, which is important.
I received this camera as a Christmas gift. I was so excited to finally have a personal digital camera of my own - at more than thirty years of age I've been borrowing my husband's or my mother's for years so I was very happy to have my own. However, I am extremely disappointed with this camera. I'm not exactly a professional, but I'm no fool either when it comes to taking pictures; I may not know my f-stop from a door stop, but I can take a good picture. This camera takes LOUSY pictures! Even worse, though, was the customer service I received when calling Nikon. I was sure that the camera must be defective, because I've taken beautiful pictures with my mom's camera, a Kodak that's an older digital camera - only about 2 or 3 mp and 2x optical zoom. Yet we never get blurry pictures with the Kodak, while with this Nikon that's all we got! If the flash is on, the pictures are washed out and blurry. If the flash is off, the pictures are blurry and there is so much digital noise it reminds me of trying to tune in a tv channel with an old antenna and no cable. When I tried to get assistance or a replacement from Nikon, they told me that I would always need to use the flash in order to avoid the 'digital noise,' and that I should use a kleenex over the flash to tone it down. Beyond that they repeatedly inferred that the problem was me and that there was no way their camera was defective. Well, this camera even took blurry pictures on a tripod! I rest my case. Steer clear!
