An incredible little camera with superb picture quality-another home run from Nikon

As of December 2008, I have seen the L18 priced at $89-$99 at places like Costco and BJ's.

The L 18 fit the bill perfectly.Sleekly styled,easy to hold,it fits in most pockets easily. The very large viewing screen ( 3" ) makes it very easy to frame and shoot pics. The recycle time between shots is much faster than my old digital.The anti-shake feature aids in picture-taking and is used often.


This model can accept SD cards up to a maximum of 4GB. They recommend SanDisk,Toshiba and Panasonic,but mine works fine with a Dane-Elec SD card.Other Coolpix owners I have talked to report no problems with any name-brand SD card.

For a black-friday holiday gift, I purchased a SanDisk 4GB card the day after thanksgiving for $10. With the internal memory and the sd card, I now have  1364  exposures-more than enough for any practical purpose.

There is no manual viewfinder;and the Coolpix L18 shuts down automatically after 3 minutes of non-use.

Update-this model is now discontinued. Its replacement is the CoolPix L20,which retails for $139. It has 10 megapixels and accepts up to 16gb SDHC cards,as well as additional exposure modes among other features.
