Great Overview

I started subscribing to Newsweek while I was in college. It was presidential election time and everyone around me was debating the strengths and weaknesses of all the candidates. I realized that though I knew the candidates' names, I knew precious little else about them. Newsweek was recommended to me as a good, fairly unbiased and broad-scope magazine, and I have found that to be true.

I buy this magazine to keep up with national and international news. I don't have time to read a newspaper every day, and though I have usually heard about what's happening before my Newsweek arrives, I get a more in-depth view from the magazine than from what I've been hearing from people around me. In less time than it would take for me to keep up with the newspapers, I get all the info on all the interesting news stories going around.

I like the fact that, though the writers may sometimes express an opinion in a story, as a whole Newsweek doesn't make a stand one way or another on issues. Instead, they just report the facts without bias. On the other hand I also like the My Turn essays. These are usually written by everyday people and cover a huge range of topics - basically whatever is on the writer's mind. These are often very opinionated.
