Good way to reclaim lost printer if you've upgraded

Date of Review: Jan 9, 2004

The Bottom Line:  If you're a Windoze only user, no problem. If you're a Mac user, have faith, perserve, and you should be OK.
This solution seemed to be the one I've read the most positive reviews about. I have a PC and an iMac at home and have been wanting to share my HP LaserJet 5MP between the machines. Another issue was that my iMac didn't support the older style communication style that are on the printer, but it is a perfectly fine printer for my needs.

The key to using this print server is to poke around the CD as well as the netgear website to ensure you download all of the documentation. For example, from the main printed guide, there's little mention that you can administer this device via an internet browser.

Also, the netgear website seems to cast a pretty negative view towards Mac users and support, but once I found the secret (that you have to select the printer not as an IP printer but as an appleTalk printer), things have worked fine so far (2 days and counting).

I'll try and update more after a little more use.

TIP: Although easily overlooked, make sure you realize how the adapter will attach to the printer. I realized after I purchased it that I now have to permanently leave off a piece of the plastic casing of my printer so that this adapter/server can stay connected.
